20 Most Overweight American Cities

Nearly all of the 20 most overweight cities in the U.S. are in the country’s Southern regions, according to a WalletHub analysis.

To identify the areas where weight-related problems are most prevalent, WalletHub compared 100 of the most populated U.S. metro areas across 18 key indicators of weight-related issues. The data set includes contributing factors such as portion of physically inactive adults, projected obesity rates by 2030 and access to healthy food.

The McAllen, Texas metro area had the highest share of obese adults (44.90 percent), which is 2.5 times higher than the rate in San Francisco, the metro area with the lowest share of obese adults (17.85 percent).

Additionally, the McAllen metro area had the highest share of physically inactive adults at 36.9 percent compared to Provo, Utah, which was the metro area with the lowest at 13.6 percent.
